INCELS, TRAITORS & TROLLS: MAGA

MAGA developed as a grievance machine, an antagonism machine, and a loyalty machine. Its public culture now rests on three recurring figures: the incel, the traitor, and the troll. The incel supplies resentment against equality. The traitor supplies permission to place one man above the constitutional republic. The troll supplies the daily method of attack, humiliation, deflection, and exhaustion.

These are not random insults. They are political functions. They describe how the movement behaves, what it rewards, what it excuses, and what it asks its followers to become in public. They explain why so much of MAGA’s energy does not move toward policy, governance, civic duty, constitutional repair, public service, or national stewardship. It moves toward domination. It moves toward making other Americans afraid, angry, degraded, or forced to spend their lives correcting deliberate falsehoods.

The incel function begins with grievance against equality. It treats women’s independence as humiliation. It treats feminism as civilizational decline. It treats LGBTQ visibility as corruption. It treats changing gender norms as theft. This grievance long predates Trump’s second rise, but Trumpism gave it a presidential vehicle. Research on the manosphere found that older online men’s-rights and pickup-artist communities increasingly gave way to more extreme spaces, including incels and Men Going Their Own Way, and that those newer communities were more toxic and misogynistic than the older ones. MAGA did not create that world. It converted much of its emotional material into a political identity.

The Republican Party’s own platform shows how that grievance became institutional language. The 2024 Republican platform promised to “stop the migrant invasion,” carry out the “largest deportation operation in American history,” cut federal funding for schools pushing “radical gender ideology,” keep “men out of women’s sports,” and end “left-wing gender insanity.” That is not the language of ordinary administration. It is the language of panic, punishment, restoration, and force. The platform placed migrants, teachers, LGBTQ people, students, women, and political opponents inside one threat narrative, then presented Trumpist power as the mechanism that would put the country back under control.

The misogyny is not merely cultural decoration around the movement. It is one of the movement’s organizing pleasures. After Trump’s 2024 victory, the Associated Press documented a surge of emboldened right-wing manosphere rhetoric against women, including threats and the phrase “your body, my choice” appearing online and on campuses. That phrase matters because it translates electoral victory into bodily domination. It tells women that autonomy is conditional, that political defeat carries intimate consequences, and that male power has been restored through Trump.

Trump’s own legal record made the party’s submission to this politics unmistakable. A federal jury found him liable for sexually abusing and defaming E. Jean Carroll and awarded her $5 million. The Second Circuit affirmed the judgment, noting that the jury found sexual abuse and defamation and that the trial court admitted evidence including testimony from two other women and the 2005 “Access Hollywood” recording. On June 29, 2026, the Supreme Court declined to hear Trump’s appeal, leaving the judgment in place. The party did not recoil from that record. It made him president again.

The traitor function enters where grievance becomes hostility to the constitutional republic itself. In this argument, traitor means the political act of subordinating lawful elections, courts, juries, agencies, and constitutional transfer of power to personal loyalty to Trump. The Department of Justice indictment in United States v. Trump alleged that Trump and his co-conspirators used knowingly false election-fraud claims to pressure state officials, organize fraudulent elector slates, pressure the vice president, and obstruct the certification of the 2020 election. Special Counsel Jack Smith’s final report later stated that the admissible evidence was sufficient to obtain and sustain a conviction at trial, while explaining that the prosecution could not continue after Trump’s 2024 election because of the Justice Department’s position on prosecuting a sitting president.

That is the betrayal at the center of MAGA politics. The movement did not merely excuse an attempt to overturn an election. It absorbed the emotional premise beneath it. If Trump loses, the system must be corrupt. If courts rule against him, the courts must be rigged. If juries find against him, the juries must be political. If prosecutors indict him, the prosecutions must be persecution. If voters reject him, the voters must have been manipulated, replaced, deceived, or counted improperly. In that worldview, democracy remains valid only when Trump wins.

The criminal conviction confirms the same loyalty structure. On May 30, 2024, a New York jury convicted Trump of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records. The Manhattan District Attorney stated that the case involved a scheme to conceal damaging information from American voters during the 2016 election. The Republican Party’s response was not institutional separation from a convicted felon. It was deeper fusion. The conviction became another object in the grievance economy, another proof offered to the faithful that Trump alone stood between them and a corrupt nation.

The troll function gives the movement its public method. The troll does not need to persuade, because persuasion requires standards. The troll provokes, lies, insults, distorts, waits for the response, and then treats the response as the reward. The goal is not civic argument. The goal is humiliation. The goal is to make serious people waste time proving that obvious falsehoods are false, that cruelty is not policy, that equal citizenship is not oppression, and that authoritarian loyalty is not patriotism.

Gamergate showed the method before Trump made it presidential. Researchers studying 1.6 million tweets from the controversy described it as a window into online harassment campaigns and examined cyberbullying, cyberaggression, hate, and abusive behavior at scale. That style of politics migrated. It moved from message boards and social platforms into rallies, congressional hearings, school-board fights, campaign ads, official statements, and federal administration. It taught a political generation that harassment could be called rebellion, that abuse could be called humor, and that bad faith could be called free speech.

This is why “owning the libs” became more than a slogan. It became an operating code. The point is to make non-Trump voters angry, afraid, exhausted, or trapped in endless correction. The falsehood is useful because it forces other people to perform labor. They must verify. They must document. They must explain. They must defend reality. The troll turns that burden into entertainment, and MAGA turns the entertainment into membership.

The “Daddy” language exposes the movement’s deeper contradiction. The same people who mock weakness, empathy, sensitivity, and equal rights speak about Trump in the language of dependency. After NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte used “daddy” during an exchange about U.S. power, the White House posted a video captioned “Daddy’s home” with footage of Trump at the NATO summit and music from Usher’s “Hey Daddy.” Rutte later said he meant the United States rather than Trump personally, but the White House attached the phrase to Trump’s image and embraced it as brand language.

That vocabulary is politically revealing. MAGA performs toughness downward and submission upward. It mocks vulnerable people, then demands emotional protection for Trump from judges, juries, prosecutors, journalists, historians, veterans, comedians, women, immigrants, election workers, and voters who refuse to obey. It calls him Daddy, then calls everyone else weak. It calls him persecuted when courts apply law. It calls him chosen when institutions fail to stop him. It calls him strong when he degrades people with less power than he has.

The religious language intensifies the same dependency. Trump shared a Truth Social post in 2022 that placed Jesus first and Trump second. In 2026, he posted and then deleted an AI-generated image that critics described as depicting him in a Jesus-like role, then shared another image showing Jesus embracing him. The factual issue is not whether every Trump voter literally worships him. The factual issue is that the movement has repeatedly tolerated, circulated, and rewarded a political atmosphere where Trump can be treated as father, martyr, redeemer, vessel, victim, and instrument of divine purpose.

This is the architecture: grievance, betrayal, and antagonism. The incel gives MAGA resentment against equality. The traitor gives MAGA permission to place Trump above the republic. The troll gives MAGA its everyday method of political conduct. Around those three figures, the movement builds its rituals. It calls him Daddy. It treats him as chosen. It excuses the convictions. It denies the jury findings. It mocks the women. It threatens the migrants. It targets the trans child. It attacks the teacher. It harasses the election worker. It calls the press corrupt. It calls the courts illegitimate. It calls the backlash censorship. It calls the whole performance patriotism.

Patriotism requires loyalty to the country when one’s faction loses. MAGA increasingly treats the country as legitimate only when Trump dominates it. Patriotism requires respect for lawful transfer of power. MAGA made excuses for a defeated president who tried to remain in office. Patriotism requires acceptance that other citizens remain citizens even when they reject one’s leader. MAGA turns dissenters into enemies, targets, invaders, groomers, traitors, vermin, communists, and obstacles to be crushed.

The flag becomes a costume. The anthem becomes a prop. The Constitution becomes a selective weapon. The nation becomes a stage for revenge. That is why the movement can appear patriotic while acting against the obligations that make patriotism meaningful. Its loyalty is not horizontal, citizen to citizen, under a shared constitutional order. Its loyalty is vertical, follower to leader, with cruelty distributed downward.

MAGA’s public culture is not an accident of tone. It is not a collection of regrettable excesses around an otherwise normal civic program. It is a system. It identifies enemies, rewards cruelty, sanctifies Trump, and trains followers to experience the humiliation of other Americans as national restoration. It does not need coherent governance when antagonism itself supplies the emotional payoff. It does not need constitutional consistency when loyalty to Trump supplies the measuring stick. It does not need truth when trolling makes truth into someone else’s burden.

Incels, traitors, and trolls are not side characters in MAGA politics. They are the movement’s working parts. One supplies the resentment. One supplies the betrayal. One supplies the method. Together, they explain why the movement is submissive upward, sadistic downward, and hostile to any institution that refuses to bend. MAGA calls that strength because honesty would require a confession it cannot survive. The movement is not defending America from humiliation. It is using America to humiliate everyone who refuses to kneel.
